The JSS college has faculties of Arts, Sciences, Commerce, BCA BBA and MSc (CS). The JSS Stands for Janata Shikshana Samithi i.e. Peoples education society. The Karnataka Education Board Started the college in the year 1944. The society bloosomed into a network of institution. The management of college was taken over from the Karnataka Education Board in the year 1952 under the title Janata Shikshana Samithi.
The college is situated on the beautiful hillock known as Vidyagiri, the mountain of education. It is appropriately known as the hill of the rising sun. This hillock is also known as Mailarlinga hill, one of the seven hills of Dharwad
In the earlier stages, the great freedom fighter and constructive worker Shri. R S Hukkerikar guided the destines of the institution .At present the college is extremely lucky to have Pujya Sri. Vishweshteerth Sri Padangalavaru, Swamiji of Pejwar Matt as the President and the dynamic, Philanthropic Poojya Sri. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Srikshetra Dharmsthala as the chairman of JSS. The Samiti is extremely lucky to have a dynamic and progressive secretary Dr.N. Vajrakumar under whose able guidance the institution has been making Steady progress.
